NAEPC Webinar: Qualified Opportunity Zones

Speaker: Marc L. Schultz, Esq.

An overview of the recently enacted federal Opportunity Zone Incentive.  This includes a discussion of recently issued proposed regulations and an update on the current status of this incentive.

Marc Schultz's practice is concentrated in federal, local and state taxation matters, including complex transactions involving corporate, limited liability companies, limited partnerships, tax exempt entities, and real property. Marc currently chairs Snell & Wilmer’s Tax Credit Finance Group and Renewable Energy Group Opportunity Zones, and founded and co-chairs the firm’s Opportunity Zones and Funds Industry Group.

Marc has represented investors, developers, and syndicators with respect to Low-Income Housing Tax Credit transactions, and has represented numerous parties with respect to transactions involving New Markets Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and Renewable Energy. Marc is a regular speaker and panelist on the subject of tax credit finance and the Opportunity Zone incentive, and has written numerous articles and has been quoted in numerous publications with respect to these subject areas.  Marc is currently representing investors, fund sponsors, and developers with respect to the Opportunity Zone Program. He has an established practice involving mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, formation of private investment funds, like-kind exchanges, and tenancy-in-common transactions.  Marc was recently a panelist with a prominent role at both the State of Delaware’s Opportunity Zone Summit hosted by the Biden Institute and at the Opportunity Zone Conference hosted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Marc received a Juris Doctor with highest honors from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and received a Legal Masters in Taxation (LL.M.) from the New York University School of Law. He has also served as an adjunct professor, teaching taxation of business entities in the Graduate Program of Accountancy, at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Marc also served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Housing Finance Authority, as an appointment by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.

Continuing Education Credit

Continuing education credit is available at most webinars for Accredited Estate Planner® designees.  In addition, a general certificate of completion will be available for those who feel the program satisfies their continuing education requirements and are able to self-file.  It is the responsibility of the attendee to determine whether their state, discipline, or designation will allow one to self-file for a distance-learning program.  Please contact webinars@naepc.org prior to attending your first program if you have any questions with regard to the availability of credit.
