Message from the President

McCleary & Associates
Houston, Texas
Dear Colleagues,
Many of you are becoming increasingly aware of the existence of The NAEPC
Education Foundation, but as I visit and speak to councils across the country I
learn that many individual members of councils are still unaware of that
organization. Please allow me to enlighten you.
Creation of The NAEPC Foundation was authorized by the board of directors of
NAEPC in 2005, and in July of that year the Foundation was incorporated in
Delaware as an IRC Section 501 (c) (3) corporation. I was not involved with
NAEPC at that time, so can take no credit whatsoever for that event. However, I
continue to be impressed by the wisdom and foresight shown by NAEPC's officers
and directors at that time whenever I review the Articles of Incorporation.
Statement 9 in that document outlines the purposes for which the corporation was
organized. I think that restating four of those purposes herein is appropriate:
- to educate the public regarding the benefits of the team concept of
estate planning as espoused by the National Association of Estate Planners &
Councils;
- to develop educational programs regarding estate planning for estate
planning professionals and the general public;
- to hold educational conferences, seminars, forums, and meetings
regarding estate planning;
- to engage in any and all lawful activities that serve to educate estate
planning professionals and the general public regarding estate planning.
Those are certainly laudatory objectives, and I am happy to report that our
foundation is growing both legs and wings in pursuit of those stated purposes.
It has, together with NAEPC, co-hosted our nationally acclaimed Annual
Conference for the past several years, was instrumental in obtaining the
Presidential Proclamation naming the third week in October as National Estate
Planning Awareness Week, and has partnered with our Synergy Summit colleagues in
supporting Financial Literacy Awareness Month in April. In addition, the
Foundation has created an excellent website for use by the public—
www.EstatePlanningAnswers.org.
Because the Foundation has been so involved in educational activities, its
name was changed last year to include that focus: The NAEPC Education
Foundation. I invite you to learn more about this growing organization by
logging on to www.naepc.org/foundation.web. Browse to your heart's content, and
then click on the "Contribute" link in order to join many of our local and
national leaders in providing financial support for this most worthy endeavor.
Thanks in advance.

National Financial Literacy Month Recap
April 2012 was National Financial Literacy Month! A copy of the
full post-campaign report can be found online. It's not too early to start
thinking about how you can make an impact during National Estate Planning
Awareness Week, scheduled from October 15-21, 2012. All members of affiliated
local councils are encouraged to get involved!
Have you Visited www.NAEPC.org Lately?
Our website, www.NAEPC.org boasts many
exciting features and capabilities. If you have not visited lately, take a look
today. Here are just a few of the many things you can do when you get there:
Estate Planning Law Specialist Designation Information
The Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) designation is available to attorneys and is administered by the Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an attorney-run subsidiary of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. Attorneys who become board-certified under this program demonstrate a high level of professionalism and commitment to the concept of specialization. This program is currently the only program, other than certain state bar association programs which are only for residents of their particular states, accredited by the American Bar Association to Board-certify attorneys as Estate Planning Law Specialists.
Get Involved!
Nominations for the NAEPC Board of Directors Open Until Friday,
July 6, 2012
The National Association of Estate Planners & Councils is the
association of choice for estate planning professionals! Our membership is
comprised of affiliated local estate planning councils and Accredited Estate
Planner® designees from throughout the country. As such, the board of directors
greatly reflects the individual estate planning councils and their 27,000
members. Any organization is only as strong as those who lead it and the
association now seeks your help in identifying potential leaders for the
national board of directors. If you are interested in serving, or know of
someone that might be a good candidate, please contact the national office to
receive a copy of the NAEPC board nomination kit and be sure to submit the
completed application by the July 6th deadline.
Talented Volunteers Needed!
NAEPC is a dynamic and growing association comprised of affiliated local
estate planning councils, their 27,000 members, and Accredited Estate Planner®
designees, led entirely by a volunteer board of directors, a strong committee
configuration, and many volunteers serving on an as-needed basis for
project-based or task force work. We are always looking to expand our volunteer
base and encourage council leaders, council members, and designees to get
involved by serving on one or more committee. Visit our website for a
list of committees and an
application.
