Participate
|
Membership associations are as strong as their members. Make sure you are an
active participant at the local and national levels with these handy tips:
- Regularly attend local estate planning council meetings to learn and
network with local professionals. Traveling? Why not find an estate planning
council in the area in which you are visiting to see if they have a meeting
scheduled?
- Attend the Annual NAEPC
Advanced Estate Planning Strategies Conference, which builds upon the
education offered by your local council and allows you to create your
national network of multi-disciplinary professionals. Attending in-person
conferences is also consistently noted as one of the best ways to impact the
future of your business and ensure that you are up-to-speed on the latest
developments.
- Participate in our
community on LinkedIn.
- Complete in your educational calendar with programs from the
Robert G. Alexander Webinar
Series. Affordable and flexible, these online courses bring national

Attain the Accredited Estate Planner® Designation or Estate Planning Law Specialist Certification
|
Professional designations and certifications offer significant benefits for
practitioners. NAEPC offers two programs, both of which help to set you apart
and gain a competitive edge.
- The Accredited Estate Planner® designation is the only graduate-level
designation in estate planning and is available to credentialed professionals
actively licensed or certified as an accountant; attorney; insurance and
financial planner; philanthropic advisor; or trust officer—holding one or more
of the following credentials CAP®, CFA, CFP®, ChFC®, CLU®, CPA, CPWA®, CSPG,
CTFA, JD, MSFS, and MST and who are devoting at least a third of one's
professional time to estate planning.
- Attorneys who become Board-certified under the only ABA-accredited program in
estate planning, the
Estate Planning Law Specialist certification, demonstrate a
high level of professionalism and commitment to the concept of specialization.
This program is available only to actively licensed attorneys with five or more
years of experience during which at least 40% of their practice is devoted to
estate planning at an enhanced level, among other requirements.

S.A.V.E. Yourself
Speaker: Chad Sheehan
This webinar could save your life!
A message from the Webinar Committee Chair, Thomas M. Borchert
It was Robert Alexander's dream to bring "the best of the best, of the
best" speakers to the NAEPC webinar series and to build a quality
educational archive for Accredited Estate Planner® designees and local
council members. In the six years since our beginning the series we have
done so, and will continue to be guided by his dream.
Our selection of monthly topics has paralleled our commitment to
providing quality speakers. Occasionally, a topic is so imperative that we
bring it to you even when it is not a technical estate planning subject. In
those rare occasions we ask your indulgence and continued attendance so you
can hear a broader range of topics which have value and importance. The
S.A.V.E. Yourself webinar planned for April 25th is one of these
imperatives. Your safety and that of your staff and family can be positively
impacted by attending this presentation. Training from Mr. Sheehan has
already proven to have saved lives during the mass killings in Las Vegas. We
encourage you to attend and to consider registering your business or council
for a group showing of the presentation, which can be watched live or
on-demand at a time that is convenient for you.
Learn what to do in the midst of an active shooter situation.
How to survive the most horrific episode of your life.
Does your office have written procedures for handling work place violence? If
not, you could be facing a severe O.S.H.A. response following a deadly incident.
The S.A.V.E. Yourself program has taught over 100,000 people in more than 24
states how to respond in the 3-6 minutes of danger during an active shooter
situation, before help arrives. It incorporates current training philosophies
and best practices of: U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, U.S. Dept. of Justice,
U.S. Department of Education, American College of Surgeons, International
Association of Chiefs of Police, O.S.H.A., and S.H.R.M.
This webinar will condense what is typically a half-day program into one hour
and will provide background, philosophy and examples chosen specifically for
NAEPC members. It will empower attendees with ideas to assist in a situation of
workplace violence. Emphasis will be placed on the proactive response to
violence in the workplace and elsewhere. Attendees will be empowered to survive.
If you survive, you can help others plan to thrive.
Chad Sheehan is the creator of S.A.V.E. Yourself, a training program for
businesses, associations, and schools for their staff and students. He is a 23
year veteran of law enforcement with assignments in Hostage Negotiations, as a
Field Training Officer and a member of a Critical Incident Stress Management
team. Mr. Sheehan is a certified instructor in Rapid Response to active shooter,
Conflict Resolution, Tactical Communication and D.A.R.E.

Message from the
President
M. Eileen Dougherty, CTFA, CFP®, AEP®, ChFC®
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Dear Colleagues,
With nearly one-third of my presidency behind me, I'm delighted with all of
the exciting progress and activities happening at NAEPC this year, a few of
which I'd like to highlight within this message.
As an organization that provides service to estate planning councils, much of
our work surrounds their needs and a few very important yearly initiatives, the
first of which is
Regional Leadership Day. We are delighted to be planning our 2nd annual
regional "roadshow" with events planned on June 19th in Anaheim, June 21st in
San Francisco, and in Seattle/Tacoma on June 25th. These programs give volunteer
leaders and council executives an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from
one another and provide the NAEPC leadership with a rare opportunity to be
together with council leaders for an entire day! These regional events will be
followed closely by the announcement of the
2018 Council of Excellence winners and the award ceremony that will take
place at the 55th Annual NAEPC
Advanced Estate Planning Strategies Conference.
This year we have also teamed up with The Legacy Companies to launch an
exclusive and unique online educational program focused on collaboration.
LINK, as the program is known,
provides on-demand access to over four hours of education on best practices with
regard to multi-disciplinary teaming and is available to Accredited Estate
Planner® designees for the low enrollment fee of $100 and members for just $169.
I personally invite you to enroll, complete, and to share your thoughts about
the program with our leadership. In addition to LINK, our very active
Multi-disciplinary Teaming Committee has produced an exceptional new resource—a sample client letter highlighting the importance of teaming in light of the
new tax act. Take a look today!
In closing, I share my heartfelt invitation for you to attend the 55th Annual
NAEPC Advanced Estate Planning Strategies Conference in warm and sunny Ft.
Lauderdale this November. I truly hope that I will be able to meet you in person
there and learn about how you are maximizing your membership in NAEPC!
Until November,
|
